Best Way to Care For Blonde Hair

Hello beautiful! Thanks for visiting the blog today. I’m Alexis, a hairstylist at Pomme Salon & Spa. I wanted to share some very important information you NEED to know about blonde hair care, and TWO of the most important tips & tricks to keep your hair lusciously beautiful. Ahem ( and healthy ). Let’s get started!

THE NUMBER ONE TIP for keeping your blonde bright and healthy is having the RIGHT Shampoo. Honestly this is important for any kind of hair. Many shampoos contain sulfates. They are damaging to your hair because it contains salt molecules that rough up the cuticle of your hair. This makes hair tangled, seem dry or crunchy, and it  allows all of your toner to slip out of your hair causing your blonde to yellow. Picture dry brittle looking hay like hair.  Using sulfates is like washing your hair with sandpaper. No Thanks!

NUMBER TWO the cold rinse is KING or queen as the case may be- Doing a cold rinse at the end of your shower sounds scary. Think of it like this… when you wash your face with cold water it closes your pores locking in natural oils and locking out dirt right? The same concept applies for your hair. It closes the cuticle locking in the conditioner, and your color. It also smooths each strand for a more shiny, frizz free finish.

SIDEBAR BABES… cause we need ta talk.

Are you thinking about going blonde?

There are some things to consider before you decide to go blonde. Salon Maintenance can be a big deal. To maintain a certain level of blonde you may have to visit the salon frequently not just for your retouch, but also for treatments to maintain the  integrity of your hair. Being super blonde is expensive to your hair health. Deep conditioning treatments or getting it cut more often will be vital.

You might need to say NO to heat styling. Avoiding heat as much as possible is important for many reasons. The main reason being when you  pre lighten hair it becomes more fragile. Heat is going to make it worse if not immediately than over time. I suggest you minimize your heat styling, get a really good heat protectant, and do more conditioning treatments both in the salon and at home.

Take texture into account.  When you pre-lighten your hair, the texture changes because you are altering the side bonds. This can be obvious in many different ways depending on your hair texture to begin with. For instance if you have super curly hair and you decide to lighten it, the curl pattern can be diffused or slightly loosened. If you have more flat, straight hair lightening the hair can give you more body and volume because it roughs the cuticle. Sometimes your new texture can seem like damage even if it is still relatively healthy.
